Three girls in three cities all attended a Harry Styles show this year, each one had become a fan of Harry at different times in their life and they all had very different experiences.
It’s taken me about a week to synthesize my thoughts around “Harry Styles,” the debut album from my very favorite dude, but I finally feel like I have calmed down enough to put words on a page. I want to start by saying I am trying to make this as unbiased and as thoughtful as possible, but let’s be honest, we all know I can’t say a bad word about Harry and that’s why y’all love (or hate) me. Anyway, it would be a vast understatement to say that I wasn’t on the edge of my seat for a literal year waiting for this album, but I was a little nervous – no one knew what #SoloStyles was going to sound like, and I was really hoping it would be something I enjoyed. Harry has an interesting taste in music, so it had the potential to be anything.

Where do I even begin? My name is Kasey Coble, and I am a full-on #Directioner. What I am not, however, is a Directioner who still supports you in your solo endeavors. Don’t get me wrong – I am on board for the solo careers of Harry, Niall, Liam and Louis in whatever it may be: singing, acting, reality TV judging, etc. The difference is that they went about pursuing solo activities the right way and YOU did not.
As we all know One Direction has been on hiatus since early 2016, which is why I was so confused when I first heard Niall Horan’s solo track “This Town”. I was like, wait did One Direction put out another song or..?
Since I’ve moved to Chicago, I’ve found myself alone at concerts on numerous occasions, and you know what? It’s not so bad. It’s actually pretty awesome. Here are my top reasons why you should try flying solo at a music event.
