BadMoodRude is a whole vibe, her new song with MOD SUN, "Novocaine," is dark and haunting. It's about toxic relationships and that addiction you have to someone that's not good for you. We talked to her about the new song and how TikTok is changing how we discover music.
How did you get started in music?
BMR: I started making music after my grandma asked me to make her a song last year, it was completely out of the blue she asked me to and we were extremely close.
She said she loved my music and I had to make more and she suddenly passed away less than 2 months later.
What was the defining moment where you knew you wanted to pursue music as a career?
BMR: I was really depressed after losing my grandma and I almost stopped making music but then I started getting messages from people telling me how much my music has helped them get through difficult times in their lives and the ability to do that for someone else keeps me going
Do you think Tik Tok has propelled the new generation of artists?
BMR: Yes, I love TikTok I think it’s a super easy and fun way to get music out there and to enjoy the music!
Tell me about “Novocaine” what’s the story behind the song?
BMR: "Novocaine" is a song about toxic relationships and the people in your life who you care so much about but have hurt you. It could be a family member, significant other or a friend.
What has been inspiring you lately?
BMR: I’ve grown so much as an artist this year and it’s about to be the 1 year anniversary of losing my grandma and the 10 year anniversary of losing my mom, I know how proud they would be of me and it inspires me to keep creating.
What’s your best piece of advice for young women?
BMR: You need to authentically next yourself for yourself! It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks, be you and everything will fall into place.
