Ivy Rei just dropped her amazing lyric video for "Good To You" and we're obsessed with the pure pop sound.
Tell me about your song “Good To You” what’s the story behind the song?
Ivy: Good To You is about messing up in a relationship. When you haven’t necessarily made the right choices and you’ve screwed up big time. ”I messed up. One touch, lost it all”. Good To You is about letting down your walls to ask forgiveness & to not let your mistakes define your future.
I love how it’s classic pop. Who is your favorite pop icon and why?
Ivy: My favourite pop icon of all time is the one, the only: The King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The musicality & the precision. My anthems growing up consisted of 90% MJ songs. His three Quincy Jones produced albums are my fave, but Bad has always & will always be my #1.
How was working with Anthony Preston?
Ivy: Anthony Preston is amazing to work with & he is such an inspiration. I have a lot to learn from him, and he and Andre Lindal are so hardworking - I really admire that!
What else has been inspiring you lately?
Ivy: Literally everything. I’ll see a mountain and it will inspire me, haha. But also, documentaries about artists. Just recently I watched the Kygo one, the Ed Sheeran one, and oh, Bohemian Rhapsody (not a documentary but a damn good representation of Queen and their story). Seeing their stories and the insane music they’re all creating inspires me immensely.
What’s next for you?
Ivy: My third single will be coming up at the beginning of the new year & I am sooo excited for you guys to hear this next one. It’s different. I never wanna stay in the same lane for too long. I like to switch it up. This next one’s more edgy, more girlpower, more sassy, & I’m so excited for this next chapter.
