My Powerpuff Girls of folk-pop, Trousdale. I saw the trio at the Troubadour when I lived in LA and I knew the girls had something special. The group comprised of Quinn D'Andrea, Georgia Greene, and Lauren Jones have the most insane chemistry I have ever witnessed in a band. I got to chat with them shortly after performing at Bonnarroo and we discussed their deluxe album and what's next for the trio.
So I know your deluxe album is out! What was the process of including the specific songs for this one?
Trousdale: We've always been primarily a live band. It's where we feel like we gain new fans. Like, if we're opening for someone or people are seeing su for the first time. We were playing live shows before we ever recorded or released any music, so we've always wanted to do something that incorporated our live shows and released it.
Originally, we were thinking about filming something for the deluxe album, but once we did the El Rey show, it felt like such great energy, we went through with it and picke our favorite songs that we loved to do live. For the features part, we went through a list of people we would love to have and we sent them options of songs that stuck out to them and that's how we settled on our features.
I love that. And you were very intentional of the songs you chose. I also love that you stated that you want this project to come across as if they're seing you live because after I saw y'all play at the Troubadour in LA, I immediately went to find your music on Spofity and it sounds JUST LIKE YOU DO. Which, of course, duh! But you know what I mean!
Trousdale: Oh my god, I love that!!! And thanks for coming to our show!
When it comes to songwriting, how does it work and come together? Do all three of you have the same creative process, or does it vary?
Trousdale: I feel like we're all pretty different in terms of what we listen to these days, but we all have songs that we all connect with or connect with similar themes. So, while it's not exactly the same, it's what Trousdale is. In terms of the writing, it can vary. Sometimes it'll be like we're talking, having a conversation, and then we'll be like, that's a great song idea, let's write that. Sometimes, one of us will come in and say like, "I'm hearing this for Trousdale," and play something, and then we all work on it if we're all into it.
It sounds like you won't even put stock into a song unless you're all feeling it - which, I think blends into the chemistry you all have on stage. It honestly was one of the very first things I noticed about y'all as a group.
Georgia: Oh, thank you. I think we really do lean on each other's strengths. We've all worked in music on our own, and I think this band feels like such; I feel so grateful to have met Lauren and Quinn because we get to use each other's strengths to make, each other's strengths to make something greater.
Lauren and Quinn: Yeah, and I feel like because we all met in school and going there because we all wanted to do music and wanted to be in a band together.
No, I love that - like you didn't need to be in a band first or were put together by outsiders.
Trousdale: Yeah, we all have the pieces to make it work and I think everything we add is just elevated and it shines when performing on stage.
Of course, that's where you guys really shine, but what is your favorite song to perform live?
Trousdale: It changes for us every night, but for now, it's "If I'm Honest" because we're starting to lock in more and more over time. We're starting to lock in more over time. We also love "Out of My mind" because i'ts because we just close the show with such positive collection of emotions and it just feels like a celebration in general.
My last one is - what's next?
Trousdale: More music!! Yeah, we've been writing and we have five songs that are already recorded. We have almost too many songs, which si a great thing. We're trying this new thing because we're so used to being a live band, we're now recording with a full band.
Okay, because the recording process is slightly different for this project - can you give us hints?
Trousdale: I think for this one, because we're oso much older, we've grown into ourselves. We're so different thanwe were two years ago so we're just talking bout what we are going through at this age - our late 20s. Seeing the world in a different lens and excited to share those with our fans.
