Here at The New Nine, we’re so excited to find up-and-coming artists, especially young women. When we first heard Sydney Ray’s “Big” we couldn’t help but be inspired. We talked to Sydney about what keeps her motivated.
What first got you interested in music?
I became really interested in music and pursuing a career in music when I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at age 11. Through ups and downs, I always turned to music to empower me and it made me want to become an artist that empowers others.
Who are your top influences?
My biggest musical influence is Sara Bareilles because she inspires me to break the social norms and live my life by my own standards.
Tell me about your new song Big?
My new single “Big” is about living life to the “max” and believing you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
It’s such a inspirational track, what keeps you motivated?
What keeps me motivated is my family and my music which remind me constantly of my strength and passions in life. I’m so lucky to have such a supportive family that encourages me to seize the day.
What is your best piece of advice for young women?
My best advice for anyone, especially young women, is to know that you can dream, love, and live, BIG and have the strength to rise.
What’s next?
I’m currently writing a bunch of songs with producers Eren Cannata and Jeff Pardo and am hoping to have another single release sometime soon.
Listen to BIG today and follow her on Instagram for updates! We can’t wait to see where this girl is going!
