Anna Moon Is Doing Her Own Thing

Anna Moon is one-of-a-kind, the up-and-coming artist just wants to do her own thing. Her song "Tightrope" is about toxic relationships but also about growing and getting healthier again, rebuilding. We talked to her about the song and what else has been inspiring her lately.

How did you get started in music?

My grandmother actually introduced me to music and that sparked my interest. She was a fantastic jazz/blues pianist and always encouraged me to pursue music.

Tell me about “Tightrope” - what’s the story behind it!!!

Tightrope is a story of empowerment. I really wanted to write a song that encouraged people to be happy and leave toxic relationships that hold you back.

I love female Geminis!!! Why do I hate male geminis? I feel like it’s so different!!!

I’ve never heard that thought before... 😉 but I’m happy to be on your good side! Haha.

I love the mix of jazz and pop, why do you think those two worlds blend together?

I think jazz, if worked correctly, can almost go with anything because it’s the foundation of almost everything. For me, I really just wanted to re-package a style of music that we’ve all heard, but do it in a way where new generations could be introduced.

What’s been the biggest challenge for you in the music industry?

I think the biggest challenge, for me, is that my style of music is quite specific. There’s no road map, so I really just have to listen to my gut.

What’s been inspiring you lately?

I’ve been really inspired by videography and I’ve even begun to take on a more active role in my own visual content. I recently co-directed my first music video, the one  for Tightrope. It was so much fun!!

What’s your best piece of advice for young women?

Trust your instincts. I totally believe that women have a 6th sense about them, and when harnessed it can be our best asset!!
