Emeline: Being Authentic Is Empowering

emilytreadgold #3, Features

Emeline’s track “flowers and sex” went viral on TikTok generating over 7 MILLION plays in just the span of 4 days. Emeline’s authenticity shines through her quick clip teaser - glasses, overalls, and all! I got to speak with her about this track and what she’s been up to. Oh, fun fact - her cover art? LITERALLY. HER.

Emeline! This single exploded. Can you tell me about it?

Emeline: Yeah! So I wrote the tack 3 and ½ years ago and it was just in my files for about 3 years. Then I went into the studio, finished writing it, and took to TikTok to talk about it that day. The response was crazy. I posted, checked my phone, and saw that tons of people commented so I knew I had to release it ASAP!

Amazing! TikTok is changing the scope for artists. What can you say about the platform and your career?

Emeline: I think they love the authenticity and just understood my genuine excitement during the video. I was just beaming and coming off my writing high. I think after I released it it was me coming down, but my life changed so much within the week.

How did you begin your career in music?

Emeline: I loved creating music since I was as young as 5 years old. I came up with my first band in 3rd grade and I knew then I wanted to take myself seriously in my craft. I would always perform and people would respond, “That’s so cute you want to sing!” And even in that age, I was like “NO! This is what I want to do!”

What’s your songwriting process like?

Emeline: It depends on my track, but usually, I’m free writing and lay out what I feel and go from there and then to production

What is the song you’re most proud of so far?

Emeline: I’m most proud of ‘flowers and sex.’ It’s appeasing to talk about both flowers AND sex, but to have the energy of the song and be candid in overalls on my TikTok was empowering. This song taught me to learn to know what I want out of a relationship and sexual experience. It’s not always just about pleasing men or whomever. The energy of this song is to say what you want and how you want it.

What’s something you want new fans to know about you?

Emeline: I want them to know that I wasn’t always a confident woman and it’s something I broke through. I want to fight for them. I also want them to know that they should continue hot girl summer - have validated through your confidence and that the right people will be there to support you!

Follow Emeline on Instagram, Tik Tok, and Spotify to stay tuned.

"At 15 years old, I begged my mom to take me to Walmart to get Taylor Swift's debut deluxe album and I never turned back. This was my very first entry point to stan fandom. Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee I was exposed to a ton of music - from rapping 3 6 Mafia to bopping to Justin Timberlake's solo discography. Now, in LA have a day job working in nonprofit development, but by night, I'm a full-fledged fangirl. I'll listen to generally any genre, but I'm a sucker for a good pop song. If you ever need someone to scream sing Carly Rae Jepsen's E·MO·TION with, I'm your girl. No, I still have not gotten over the One Direction hiatus. Please continue to respect my privacy.
