Kyan Palmer and nicopop’s collaboration is one I never knew I needed. The addicting lyrics and catchy beat make for a great song. If this is just a taste of what’s to come, I can’t wait to hear what’s next for them.
What was the idea behind the collaboration? And who reached out to who first?
We actually got connected by our managers. I don't think either of us really knew what to expect, it was just a typical session, but we hit it off and had a very similar vision and the project developed from there. We had a bunch of songs that we both loved that we didn't know exactly what to do with and I remember one day we were grabbing lunch at this restaurant called Obica and agreed we should start putting music out together. "Unofficial Lover" is just the beginning.
Can you tell me about what the song means to you and the inspiration behind it?
This song is very personal and that's why it had to be first. "Unofficial Lover" details the mental and emotional wounds that we both were dealt in 2018 and putting this out into the world is our way of moving on. New beginnings.
What else can we expect from this project?
This project showcases both of our styles into one. We both are huge music fans aside from being creators and because of that, there are so many different influences on this project. Something for everyone really. It's a very eclectic sound landscape centered around pop, but fusing with multiple genres.
What's something you're looking forward to in 2019?
Putting new music out. We can't wait for everyone to hear what we've been working. Also can't wait to see where life takes us this year. We're ready for a lot of positive change and growth and we'll be sharing ourselves with the world all year long.
