New Music Alert: Julia Bhatt’s “Marco”

emilytreadgold #1, Premiere

We are beyond excited to introduce you to Julia Bhatt and her amazing new song "Marco." She has this sweet vulnerability that we can't get enough of, but the song radiates strength.

Julia! How did you get started in music?

Julia: I was exposed to a lot of music as a kid, so it just became part of my life. Luckily I can kinda sing and play shit so I was able to make it even more so.

What was the turning point where you wanted to make it your career?

Julia: I’ve always wanted to have music as a primary part of my life but I also love road trips and traveling, and I love to be in different places all the time, so the life of touring and music (ideally) sounds incredibly appealing. It’s always been something I wanted to pursue, and I was given the opportunity to do that.

Tell me about your song “Marco” what’s the story behind it?

Julia: It’s just about the feeling of being ghosted, essentially. It sucks when you talk to someone and everything is going amazingly, but then all of a sudden they have no room for you anymore. It’s confusing because you usually don’t get an explanation, and it makes you feel shitty about yourself. I wrote it so I didn’t feel as shitty about myself.

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?

Julia: Honestly, missing things I care about at home. I never really had anything to miss until lately, so I never thought the being away from things at home would be an issue. But things have been going sorta well, and then I have to miss these experiences I never had because of music, which I LOVE. It’s just difficult because I know one is more important than the other in the long run, but in the moment you really feel left out and alone.

What’s been inspiring you lately?

Julia: I’ve been meeting a lot of different people lately. I like getting other people’s perspective on things. Gives you things to think about.

What’s the best piece of advice you have for young women?

Julia: Don’t let yourself get worked up in silence and have your anger or hurt simmer if you have the ability to pick yourself up. The one person who will always be there for you is you, so make sure that relationship between y’all is on good terms. (Takes a while sometimes).
