emilytreadgold #1, New 9 Tracks

Lykke Li is back with more of our favorite sad/cool songs. She told Vogue about her new song "neon" saying, "I was writing songs that didn’t make so sad so sexy, and “neon” was a part of stuff that I was writing that didn’t make the album. Also sometimes songs hit me harder way after I initially wrote them. I was playing around on the piano when I sang “so sad so sexy” and “deep end” and it hit another nerve in me. I enjoyed singing it in that raw form, so it was either I keep it to myself or let other people hear it. But it was very emotional when I did the acoustic takes because when I was recording the album, I was in the thick of all the pain and all the drama, and to later hear it again in such a raw form, I was so broken-hearted. It was really beautiful to sing it again.I was writing songs that didn’t make so sad so sexy, and “neon” was a part of stuff that I was writing that didn’t make the album. Sad Swift is the best Swift. Her new song "The Archer" is a introspective song and drifts away from her two previous releases. With lyrics like: I’ve been the archer, I’ve been the prey, Who could ever leave me darling... But who could stay?" She's really tugging at our feels. While the fan theories and deep-dives into symbolism continue, all I can say is I like when T-Swift gets more into her emotions.

UPSAHL is back with another undeniable anthem that showcases her always clever lyrics and enigmatic and endearing style.

About the song, UPSAHL commented, “‘Wish You’d Make Me Cry’ is about being with someone who is so good to you that it almost seems fake. When I wrote this song with Pete Nappi, I was caught up in that feeling, so I started just venting to him about it. At one point, I think I said something along the lines of ‘I just wish that he would make me cry’. We wrote the song within an hour after that.”

“Drunk on a Rhythm” is Gothic Tropic’s first release following her 2017 album Fast or Feast and is the first single from the upcoming album, which has been in the making for the past year.

“The song’s theme is on my most recent breakup,” says Cecilia Della Peruti on the new single. “Releasing ‘Drunk on a Rhythm’ first is my way of being generous to myself; helping me heal from betrayal, accepting joy, and moving on. The overall meaning of the song nurtures my independent identity in all its truth. Lyrically, ‘Drunk on a Rhythm’ is about meeting someone new and being magnetized to see each other ‘every other day,/ because your energies are undeniable. I recorded this with my good friend Jon Joseph, whose visionary approach to the production brought the song into a delicious analog airtight world, featuring Dusty Moon on drums, and Max Kaplan on saxophone. Fun fact, I went to high school with both of them! Putting this positive foot forward for summer feels appropriately indulgent.”

Your Smith just released "In Between Plans." The song was inspired by an acid trip on a catamaran in Nicaragua, the song was written in a jungle hut at Neon Gold’s prestigious NEON GOLDEN writing retreat attended by Tove Lo, Phoebe Ryan, What So Not and more. It was there she was able to shove self-doubt aside and take her artistry to a new level.

"'In Between Plans' is the soundtrack I wrote to the best day of my life. When the sheer abandon of who I was intersected with the acceptance of the unknown journey ahead of me. It took one trip to Nicaragua, two new best friends, and one hit of acid for me to see that life is indeed a journey. This song is about that day."

Jake Miller can do no wrong. His new song "OCEAN AWAY" is ear-wormy pop perfection and perfect for summer.

He says, "'OCEAN AWAY' is about a love so strong that it could never be affected by distance," shares Miller of the meaning behind the song. "As a traveling musician, I'm on the road all year, so this has always been a major theme in my life. No matter where I go, I'm always just a phone call away. Whether it's my family, friends, or girlfriend."

Clairo's mellow and vulnerable songs always give me the feels.

She says, "Sofia is a song about my sexuality and about having a relationship with another woman. it’s also touching on celebrity crushes with older women like Sofia Coppola and Sofia Vergara."
