A shy person by nature, Chow says she finds that what she is unable to say through speech is often best expressed through song. We chat with the rocker about her creative process, and of course, dogs.

Having an English composition background, how did this influence and curate your journey into music?

Asia: I guess when you are writing songs you can get ideas from all types of sources. I enjoy reading for funzies and definitely have gotten a lot of inspiration from some of my favorite authors. I also think studying English Lit kind of helps you think about how you can analyze another person's piece of writing and pinpoint elements you might want to emulate in your own.

What is your inspiration process like?

Asia: I have moments of inspiration, like when I looked over at my dog and started writing "The Sleeping Dog," but a lot of times I try to write as a practice, sit down, stare at the notebook or guitar, and try to just force myself to get better. haha

Tell us about the process of creating "The Sleeping Dog?"

Asia: I had the melody in my head and looked over at my dog who was peacefully sleeping. I wanted to write a happier type of song at the time and I think it was fitting that my dog would bring out so much joy and gratitude out of me.

You mentioned that your toxic trait is acknowledging every dog, so tell us, what is your favorite breed or BREEDS?! 🙂

Asia: OMG. I could never choose one breed! I truly think all dogs have their own thing going for them regardless of the breed. All dogs are beautiful! haha I might give a special shoutout to pitbulls because they have a bad reputation, but in reality so many of them are just cute, sweet, docile cuties.

How was the pivot from modeling into singing? Are there any elements of your previous life that blend into your current life?

Asia: I guess like everyone else I am informed by what I've experienced in the past. I started modeling pretty young so I'm sure that it affects me in ways I have yet to fully analyze. It gave me a lot of opportunities to work with some of my fashion idols, people I looked up to and I learned a lot from them about creativity in general.

What's next?

Asia: More music!!

"At 15 years old, I begged my mom to take me to Walmart to get Taylor Swift's debut deluxe album and I never turned back. This was my very first entry point to stan fandom. Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee I was exposed to a ton of music - from rapping 3 6 Mafia to bopping to Justin Timberlake's solo discography. Now, in LA have a day job working in nonprofit development, but by night, I'm a full-fledged fangirl. I'll listen to generally any genre, but I'm a sucker for a good pop song. If you ever need someone to scream sing Carly Rae Jepsen's E·MO·TION with, I'm your girl. No, I still have not gotten over the One Direction hiatus. Please continue to respect my privacy.
