Amy Shark is such a pop powerhouse. The first time I got to see her perform was at a rock showcase of sorts in San Diego and ever since I have been obsessed with her. We got to talk to her about her third album, Sunday Sadness. Needless to say, I can't wait to see which tracks make my Spotify Wrapped this year.
First, congrats on your third studio album!! Tell us the story behind creating Sunday Sadness.
Amy: Well, I went on a massive tour around Australia. If you know what Australia is like, when you tour regionally, it's very baron. There's a lot of desert, and it's definitely not a glamorous tour, so there was a lot of time for me to sit in tiny rooms and play guitar. I wrote a lot of songs in that time. A lot of guitar riffs that I'm really proud of. When I got home, I decided to try to make sense of some of those cool guitar riffs. Nothing really happens on Sundays. No one's working, and I'm kind of left to sit there thinking. So, I used Sunday evenings to eat spaghetti, drink wine, and finish my album.
As someone who also reflects a lot on Sundays - whether it's the coming week ahead or the week prior, but what does your Sunday ritual look like?
Amy: My Sunday night looks like spaghetti bolognese and usually searching for my passport and birth certificate and stressing about every person I've ever met in my life.
You mentioned you wrote on Sundays - how did that process differ from your past albums. Did you find that you sort of, forgot to note something on that sunday? Like let's say you thought of something on a Wednesday and wanted to remember, did that specific emotion change when it came to working on the album on Sunday?
Amy: All senses are vibrating on a high-level on Sundays. Emotions are running high, so whatever I was concerned about on Wednesday is 10 times worse on Sunday. If that makes sense.
Which track are you the most excited for fans to listen to?
Amy: I can't wait for fans to hear 'Slide Down The Wall', 'Babe' and 'I'm Sorry'
Which track are you the most proud of to send into the world?
Amy: That's way too hard! I'm excited to send this entire album into the world.

Amy: I've got a guy coming next week to fix my washing machine… so that should be fun.
