Robin Lundbäck, known as “Boy In Space,” has a reason for his creative moniker. He says, “Boy In Space” itself is a metaphor for how he navigates and untangles these emotions. “I can be crazy and all over the place at times. I was always the class clown in school and although I got along with everyone, I was never really at the top of the class,” he says. “So ‘Boy In Space’ has a very literal meaning to it. Although my songs can be sad, if you meet me, you’ll find that I’m full of energy and actually pretty happy (most of the time). So in a not so literal way, Boy In Space has become the space where I’m able to go to express those sad and darker feelings.”
So excited for the new music this year! What can we expect? Any hints?
Woooo! I am actually working on my first EP. Is that a good hint?
What's something you want your fans to know about you?
I am probably a lot weirder than what people see on social media. I will probably always be the weird kid no matter how many people are listening to my music.
Tell me about your songwriting process?
My parents are songwriters and they always taught me to paint a picture in my head, and then try to make that come alive in the music. I feel like a lot of my songs are very cinematic because of that advice.
Who are you currently listening to?
The Kid LAROI. He’s a rapper from Australia and has a new song out with Lil Tecca. He’s going to be massive one day… I really want to work with him.
Which musicians inspire your sound and songs?
I think it’s a lot of artists that people wouldn’t expect. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gorillaz, Post, Justin Bieber, The 1975. They all influence me in different ways.
Tell me about "Caroline.”
I wrote “Caroline” about this person that I had a massive crush on in school but she was way out of my league. Her name wasn’t actually Caroline though… Caroline just represents that “ person" because we all have or had one.
What's next?
Going to be playing some shows all over Europe and the UK in May! Follow me @boyinspace for details… should be announcing soon 🙂
