Josephina’s song “Woosah” is so dreamy and it just makes you feel happy. Her new video really captures that feeling of intimacy and feeling good about yourself. We talked to her about the making of the video and the way she wants her music to make you feel.

How did you get started in music?

I have been singing ever since I was a little girl. Music has always been my life but things got serious when I was 16/17 years old. I decided to make a vine and it caught people’s attention. I ended up having the opportunity to come out to LA and pursue music. After I wrote my first song, I knew there was nothing else in this world I wanted to do.

Were you ever nervous posting your singing videos when you started? How did you overcome that?

I was 10000% nervous! I would do at least 4-8 takes before posting. It’s not easy putting yourself out there but over time you gain confidence and know that you really do have people who are there to encourage you and support you. Once you focus on that and not the negativity you can focus on perfecting your craft which is what’s the most important.

What’s the inspiration behind the song Woosah?

Woosah was written to be a fun song about having a good time with friends and feeling good about yourself. My cowriter mentioned the word woosah and everything came together after we dove into the meaning. Woosah is a lighthearted vibe and I am so excited that it is out!

The video is so beautiful, tell me about the making of it?

First of all.. THANK YOU!!! I was so nervous yet so excited to make my first music video. The focus on this video was to introduce myself to the world with intimacy, honesty, and good vibes. The song is a feel good song so we wanted the music video to have hints of glamour, good energy, and simplicity.

How do you want your music to make people feel?

I used music growing up as an emotional outlet. I just hope people enjoy my music and use it in anyway they want to feel in the moment. I think a big part of being a songwriter is writing things that have been left unsaid. When I listen to songs and apply them to my life I always am like…. YES EXACTLY HOW I FEEL .. I just didn’t know how to say it so clearly. Also, my music could mean one thing to me and something completely different to my audience and I think that is the beauty of music, being able to make it your own story.

What can we expect from your EP?

You can expect a taste of Josephina. It’s going to be a little introduction to my heart and mind I can not wait to share.

What’s your best advice to young women?

This is a hard question and I feel like this answer always changes as you grow older and gain more knowledge. Right now in my life if I could look back and tell my younger self anything, it would be to learn how to love yourself. You don’t have to look any kind of way to do that either. I would tell myself to focus on having self confidence and to be daring … don’t be afraid to be who you are and love every part of it.
