Alabama Barker Paving Her Own Way With “Our House”

Alabama Barker is going to be a name you’ll want to keep on your radar. Yes, her dad’s Travis Barker. And yes, he’s THAT Travis Barker of Blink-182. We got to speak to Alabama about her debut single, “Our House” and it was the most energizing phone call I’ve had in quite some time.

First of all, congrats on the new single! It’s so catchy and good! Can you tell us about it?

To me, this song was all about having fun. You can have fun not doing anything and kind of just not letting people boss you around.

With your musical influences, it was bound for you to become a musician yourself, but when did you decide this was your ultimate path?

I just started, but ever since I was young I wanted to perform. I was always singing and dancing so I kept following that passion. I went to tour with my dad and I was just always encouraged to make music.

Aside from your dad, you also grew up around John Feldman. What’s it like working with him?

It’s so easy to work with him. He makes it fun. There’s no stress. It’s a very fun process.

You’re very sure of yourself, and at eleven that’s very admirable. Would you say your dad’s television show helped with that?

With my dad performing, I felt like he was always being watched and we were being watched. I knew I had to grow up pretty early.

Can you please tell us about your vegan and cruelty-free lifestyle?

I started this lifestyle around 6 or 7. My dad also owns a restaurant. They serve a burger and it is DELICIOUS! To me, this honestly the best thing you can do. Of course you have to support other people’s beliefs, but I couldn’t kill a cat so how can you kill a cow?

Okay, you have to tell us about your pets! Like your pig!

Oh my goodness! Taz! I love him! He’s so sweet. He’ll run up to you and cuddle with you. The other day I was on the couch with him and I just started crying looking at him. I was like I don’t see how anyone could harm him.

Any advice for anyone at a young age also pursuing music?

Don’t let anyone stop you from doing what you want. If you let them get in the way, you’ll never do it.

Check out her video for “Our House” and jam to it just like we have been for the past month!
