New Music Alert: Cape Cub

Emily Treadgold #1, Premiere Leave a Comment

Cape Cub’s euphoric sound is upbeat and wonderful for your fall soundtrack. They released their latest single, “Moonglow” which touches on everything beautiful in life, even when everything around you isn’t. As an avid Grey’s Anatomy fan, it was wonderful to be able to connect my two worlds together after learning they were featured on the soundtrack. Check out our Q&A with the group.

Can you guys tell me about the meaning behind "Moonglow?"

Moonglow is about finding something positive when everything around you is noisy and negative. In the song I say 'it's clear upon the surface, but deep inside it's hurting'. It's about getting up to that surface and finding your air, your headspace.

How did you guys get started in music?

We've all played in bands since we were kids, and some of us have even played in bands together since we were like 13. Music is something that goes way, way back in all of us.

Best piece of advice you can give to our readers who might want to get started in music?

Keep writing and never doubt yourself. For each good song I write about five shit songs. Know your ratio and you're all good.

What's something you want your fans to know about you that they might not already know?

I'm a Community Leader in Newcastle-upon-Tyne for Surfers Against Sewage, and I'm currently working with the council, organisations and businesses in my area, Ouseburn, to persuade them to be single-use plastic free. I expected it to be a tremendous challenge but it's going really well so far. My concern and work for the environment and our planet is up there with music. I know we're all super busy these days, but in my opinion we've all got time to respect, appreciate and look after the planet.

What's next for you guys?

At 15 years old, I begged my mom to take me to Walmart to get Taylor Swift's debut deluxe album and I never turned back. This was my very first entry point to stan fandom. Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee I was exposed to a ton of music - from rapping 3 6 Mafia to bopping to Justin Timberlake's solo discography. Now, in LA have a day job working in nonprofit development, but by night, I'm a full-fledged fangirl. I'll listen to generally any genre, but I'm a sucker for a good pop song. If you ever need someone to scream sing Carly Rae Jepsen's E·MO·TION with, I'm your girl. No, I still have not gotten over the One Direction hiatus. Please continue to respect my privacy.
