Stephen Puth: A League Of His Own

Charlie may have some pretty sexual bops, but his brother, Stephen is in a league all on his own. His latest single, “Watching You Walk Away” is incredible and sexy. It’s a catchy bop about a casual fling, but somehow you end up wanting more. It’s absolutely perfect for the summertime. It was so refreshing to get to speak to him about his inspiration and his own musical journey.

Stephen, I love this single! Tell me more about it. What was the inspiration?

Stephen: The inspiration for Watching You Walk Away came from how I was feeling. I’ve been enjoying the single life and wanted to write a song about how I meet somebody and how little games come into play.  The song isn’t meant to be sad.  It’s a little more tongue in cheek when I say “…It kills me every time, watching you walk away”.  Yes the situation may be casual and it’s supposed to be no pressure, but naturally you always want more.

What have you been doing to keep yourself busy during quarantine?

Stephen: Quarantine has been a really interesting time for me.  Whether I realize it or not, I’ve done a lot of self-reflection and I truly think that has helped me shape my new music I plan to release this year.  I’ve been doing a lot of writing and producing by myself, along with trying to stay healthy and positive during such unprecedented times.

What can we expect from you this year?

Stephen: I’m going to release my first EP.  Like I said, I have been working on a lot of music trying to create a body of work that tells my story and who I am.

For those who may not know you as well, what's something you want your fans to know about you?

Stephen: My entire purpose with music, or in life, is to have a positive effect on others.  Whether 3 people or millions hear my music, my biggest goal is to have my music strike a nerve with that listener. I want them to feel what I feel when I perform these songs.  To become the soundtrack to somebody’s life during any given point is really powerful and I want my music to help people in every positive way possible.
