Tina DeCara dropped her song "Solo" in early December and we were mesmerized by her sparkling pop sound and sweet voice. We talked to the up-and-coming singer about the inspo behind the song and the challenges she's faced.

How did you get started in music?

Tina: I got started into music ever since I was a little girl. Always loved to sing, and I joined select vocal choirs throughout high school and throughout elementary school was in competitive classes. I decided to take it seriously when I was 16, and had my first single release, and eventually landed a role on Fuse TV, which showcased my singing and songwriting/dancing/acting.

Tell me about your song “Solo” What’s the story behind it?

Tina: My song Solo is one of my favorite songs that i’ve written. I wrote this song alone in my room and it came to me super naturally. This song is about accepting yourself through lonely times, and growing though the pain of being alone. There’s beauty in the breakdown and that is well heard in Solo! This is a positive anthem of celebrating yourself.

What has been inspiring you lately?

Tina: Lately winter in Long Island has been inspiring me. I bought a ton of records this week and have been enjoying classic jazz hits alongside 80’s pop.

What has been one of the biggest challenges for you in your career?

Tina: One of the biggest challenges in my career is learning to trust the process. Proceeding with my passions and allowing myself to grow through this journey can be hard, but with anything thats worth having you have to be patient.

What’s your best piece of advice for young women?

Tina: People are always going to tell you no or tell you you're not this enough or that enough. You just have to know within yourself who you are and stick to your guns, listen to yourself and grow with yourself and trust who you are becoming.

Follow Tina on Twitter and Instagram to stay tuned.
