FLYNN Wants To Feel Like He Belongs

I’ve got to say, the pandemic is a strange time, but getting to interview some of the most incredible artists like the one and only FLYNN have been such a great experience. He’s a bit of a mix between Irish lads Olly Murs. He told me about his debut single, “One of Us” and what he’s been up to during quarantine.

Tell me about creating your lead single, “One of Us.”

FLYNN: I wrote this song about my time away from home. When I was 19, I went to Bristol on my own; I sort of packed my bags and let. During that time, I learned a lot about myself, grew up and battled my 20s there. I had to learn a new way of life, make new friends. This took a toll on me, but the track embodies me coming home and realizing where you’re from. I think when I was battling that, I just felt lost. This track reminds me of coming home, being grounded and feeling like I belonged.

What’s your process for creating your music?

FLYNN: I usually come up with some chords first and I’ll record melodies on my phone. I’ll write the lyrics around the melody. Sometimes, I’ll start with a title. It honestly depends on the mood I’m in.

Have you picked up any hobbies during quarantine?

FLYNN: I’ve started exercising at home! I bought a rowing machine, and it’s kept me focused and healthy during lockdown. I’ve also gotten in to some yoga, but that didn’t last very long haha!

What’s next?

FLYNN: I have a track coming out with Lost Frequencies and playing shows again. I have one in October for a charity called Pieta House in Ireland that does suicide prevention and mental health.

"At 15 years old, I begged my mom to take me to Walmart to get Taylor Swift's debut deluxe album and I never turned back. This was my very first entry point to stan fandom. Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee I was exposed to a ton of music - from rapping 3 6 Mafia to bopping to Justin Timberlake's solo discography. Now, in LA have a day job working in nonprofit development, but by night, I'm a full-fledged fangirl. I'll listen to generally any genre, but I'm a sucker for a good pop song. If you ever need someone to scream sing Carly Rae Jepsen's E·MO·TION with, I'm your girl. No, I still have not gotten over the One Direction hiatus. Please continue to respect my privacy.
