Ivy Rei is the Norwegian pop star you need to know about now. Her song "Say It to My Face" the song starts out soft and acoustic and builds to a powerful chorus that highlights her effortless voice. We talked to her about what has been inspiring her lately and her amazing new music.

What first got you interested in music?

Ivy: Initially I grew up around an extremely musical family so that is the basis of my love for music, but it just continued to grow as I realized just how much music touches my heart and my soul.

I love your song “Say It To My Face” what’s the story behind the song?

Ivy: Thank you so much. I, just like most people out there, have experienced being in some way, shape or form, spoken about behind my back. People gossip, fabricate lies & bully others behind their back. I wish people could just be straight up and Say It To My Face, so that’s what the song is about and I love (& also hate) the fact that so many people can relate to this. I want the gossip to stop, and music is my way of sending a message to the bullies out there.

What do you do when you’re not making music?

Ivy: When I’m not making music I love to hang out with friends and do all the things us teenagers do as well as travel. Great music comes from experience & so I love to experience the world and to be social and have fun.

What has been inspiring you lately?

Ivy: Other artists inspire me like crazy. There’s been so many days where I stay up til 4am watching performances by artists I adore. Also, I gather inspiration from all types of genres ranging from the sweetest pop out there to metal even. Then there's experience. Just trying to make the most out of everyday is giving me so much to write about.

What has been on of the biggest challenges in your career?

Ivy: The biggest challenge I have met so far in my career is the misinterpretation people have of me based solely on the family I’m from. If anything, being from the family I have has only made me work harder so I can prove myself as a musical act.

What’s your best piece of advice for young women?

Ivy: Be yourself. Be exactly who you want to be. Hold on to whatever ignites something inside you. Never apologize for taking up space. Also girls: know you’re worth. Know that you are beautiful, you’re strong and you deserve the world. If any guy treats you like less than a queen he is not worth your time or your energy. Don’t let a guy play you, instead go ahead and play him first. Sorry not sorry 🙂
