Ali B is taking time after school to talk to me about her career, the 17-year-old has been making waves in the EDM world with her sunny beats and charming vocals. She says, “When I was growing up I loved listening to music, I loved Hannah Montana and Selena Gomez. I’d go see them in concert and I thought I wanted to be up there every single day doing what I love.”
EDM is not new, techno and house music has been around for a long time. The past years have seen a rise in this new culture of dance music with the growing popularity of Skrillex, Deadmau5, Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, and the list goes on. It doesn’t stop at the warehouse either, EDM has infiltrated the Top 40 radio. It’s increasing popularity and cult-like following have made it a new musical phenomenon.
Lights was signed when she was 15. She was very young when she recognized the importance of music in her life. She compares music to magic. She said, “You can change the way a person feels about a moment of their lives with an intangible piece of information.”
Lights is now 28 and has had a phenomenal career as a musician. On her latest album Little Machines she stays true to her sound but has still grown with her style.
