For a girl who has a wardrobe made up of entirely all black, I actually do enjoy vibrant music. I think it was meant to be when SHAED (pronounced “shade”) contacted me for an interview last week. If you visit their website, they simply tell you they make colorful music.
A Look Into Aleem’s Open Letters
Just within the first few seconds of Aleem’s new EP Open Letters, it just feels like love. Can I explain that? It’s so positive and upbeat. Bright, sparkling songs start to finish.
A Little Awkward Interview With Hailey Knox
17-year-old Hailey Knox is just like any other high school student. She hangs with friends, does homework, and dabbles in music. Recently she’s been opening for Grammy nominated Charlie Puth while on his “We Don’t Talk” tour. Okay, so dabbles in music might be a bit of an understatement…
State Of Sound’s Summer Vibes
I don’t think there’s a day that goes by where I don’t try to find new music. Last week I was listening to the “Today’s Top Hits” playlist on Spotify when I came across a song that made me realize how much I actually missed the summer. I enjoy crisp fall mornings and oversized sweaters as much as the next girl, but some days you just start to crave the warmer weather.
Astrid S Is The Queen Of Ethereal Pop
You’ve heard her single “Hurt So Good” all over the place, but Astrid S is quite reserved. That’s the first thing that strikes me about her, she’s so ethereal and her voice is so delicate. The Norwegian singer grew up in the small town of Berkåk, Norway with less than 1,000 people and long cold winters. She said the airport in Dallas is actually larger than her home town. “I’m in cowboy land all the way from Norway,” she said as she took the stage at Southside Ballroom.
How Verite Envisions Her Music
You may recognize the name Verite as a recent addition to your Spotify “Discover” playlist with her cover of The 1975’s “Somebody Else,” or you may not recognize the name at all – but, rest assured, it is soon likely to be a name you won’t forget.
Loren North Is Seeing Starlight
The first thing that strikes me about Loren is her incredibly unique voice. Even speaking, she has the sweetest hint of a southern accent and her voice just sounds like honey. Loren grew up in Georgia, and in the southern tradition, she started out singing in a church choir. She started out wanting to do folk but when she started writing her sound evolved into something different, and it just felt right to her.
Olivia O’Brien Is Bringing Songwriting Back
“I hate you I love you, I hate that I love you. Don’t want to, but I can’t put nobody else above you. I hate you I love you, I hate that I want you. You want her, you need her. And I’ll never be her.” As soon as I heard Olivia’s sweet voice singing all-too-relatable lyrics I’ve been so curious about her. She’s been singing and writing songs since she was a kid and was self-taught. She started posting songs on SoundCloud just for fun. When gnash reached out to her on Twitter after she covered one of his songs, her life was completely changed. She sent him a voice-note of the start of “i hate u, i love u” and he invited her to L.A. to record.
Who Is That Girl Bishop?
Bishop Briggs was really nervous to open for Coldplay. The alt-trap singer with a voice that could knock down mountains has been playing smaller festivals and intimate venues this year, but was given the adventure of a lifetime by opening for one of the largest bands in the world.
We Go There Together: Find the Deep Purpose with Son Lux
If you have not yet acquainted yourself with the musical divinity that is Son Lux, you should do so immediately. In fact, it’s quite possible that you have already stumbled upon them by accident: the music of Son Lux – the trio composed of primary songwriter, keyboardist, and wordsmith Ryan Lott, guitarist Rafiq Bhatia, and drummer Ian Chang – was sampled heavily on recent songs by Fall Out Boy and Halsey, covered by Lorde, and featured in the film Paper Towns just to name a few notable pop culture appearances. No stranger to being the man behind the curtain, founding member Ryan Lott has composed music for everything from commercials to films to dance choreography, although he says that Son Lux began as “a way to explore some of [his] creative urges that weren’t being satisfied in other pursuits musically.”
