Liz Huett has quickly become one of our favorite artists. Ever since “STFU & Hold Me” I was hooked. She writes lyrics that are so relatable its like you’re talking to a friend. In her latest, “Responsibility” she takes it a step further, now she’s your friend that’s kind of a mess, and we’ve all been there.
Kiran Gandhi is quite possibly the smartest person I’ve ever met. In addition to having been a live drummer for M.I.A. and establishing her own name as a solo artist and producer (she goes by Madame Gandhi), she also has an MBA from Harvard, which is proof enough of her genius. But what I learned hearing her speak on a panel at Seattle’s Pop Conference is that her intellect goes far, far beyond academic learning. Gandhi was so insightful, so passionately logical and sharp and observant about the ways that our culture dismisses and denigrates femininity, that I knew I had to talk to her one-on-one to learn anything else I could from her.
Ottawa is a new band that’s quickly gaining tractions thanks to their edgy sound that brings you back to The Killers and Neon Trees. We talked to the band about what’s been inspiring them lately.
Seinabo Sey is captivating. Shortly into her gorgeous video for “I Owe You Nothing,” it’s clear that she’s a force to be reckoned with. Immediately, she tells her audience, “I don’t have to smile for you. I don’t have to move for you, I don’t have to dance, monkey dance, monkey dance, monkey dance for you.”
Nova Miller is a Swedish teen indie-pop singer/songwriter who’s bound to create some color in your life. Her debut EP, “Yellow” is already taking over the charts and Miller’s here to prove she’s going to stick around for quite a while. Aside from opening for acts Jacob Sartorius and Jack and Jack, she’s also performed in the studios for Ryan Seacrest. If that isn’t impressive enough, she’s got a five-octave vocal range and plays piano, guitar and many other instruments. I can’t wait for you to get to know this talented young woman.
Fly By Midnight is a pop duo formed by former MTV reality star, Justin Byrte and Slavo. The two are most known for their crazy energy and unique harmonies. This retro-pop band just dropped their new single, “All the Feels” and it’s sure to give you the feels, too. We got to talk to them about the new single and I know you’re going to love it.
There’s not a lot of artists that have a sound as striking as ZZ Ward. I was first introduced to her through her 2012 album Til The Casket Drops. I couldn’t stop listening to it.
Jenn Bostic has the most beautiful voice and her song “Too Easy” perfectly shows it off. The song is about going against the norm and following your heart.
Charlie Korman has a lot of work ethic. It shows through his drive not only int he music industry, but also in his education. He manages to be a college student along with his booming music career.
Fairview was formed in the suburbs of Chicago. Through hard work and a little luck they ended up being signed by Tom Higgenson from The Plain White T’s. We talked to the band about finding a mentor and keeping some things secret.
