Dagny is on a roll right now, the Norwegian pop star just opened for LANY and she’s been dropping new songs like nobodies business. A soon as she burst onto the stage at Emo’s in Austin she was all energy and smiles and she rolled through tracks like “Backbeat” from her Ultraviolet EP, her smash hit “Wearing Nothing” and teased some new songs that I can’t wait for, notably, “Bullet”.
Well, as a former directioner, I’m very much intrigued with how all members are handling this hiatus. Emphasis on all – like including their band members. Former One Direction’s drummer, Josh Devine, has joined forces with Sean Murray and Hayden Maringer forming the band, Evaride.
Alabama Barker is going to be a name you’ll want to keep on your radar. Yes, her dad’s Travis Barker. And yes, he’s THAT Travis Barker of Blink-182. We got to speak to Alabama about her debut single, “Our House” and it was the most energizing phone call I’ve had in quite some time.
Agnes Azria loved to sing when she was young and started voice lessons when she was only eight. “I couldn’t go to sleep unless I was sung to, or there was some noise around me,” she muses. “At 12 I started playing guitar so I would write songs. Then I went to Berklee College of Music when I was 19. Now I’m playing in an incredible band, and then we’re gigging around Los Angeles.”

It’s hard to put folk and powerful in the same genre, but Animal Years seems to make that combination happen effortlessly. Their new EP Far From Home uses the same kind of style of Lumineers, The Strumbellas, and Brandi Carlile. It’s riddled with hand-claps, catchy choruses, and a driving energy that’s so contagious. For the first 15 minutes of our discussion me and Sarah Castro talked about our difficulties with modern romance. This is just the kind of thing that makes Belcurve a fantastic band, it’s about being relatable. “Men can handle an eighth of the communication that we as women need to communicate and they’re very different,” she laughs.
There are few bands that can instantaneously feel accessible and lush with their soundscape, but Tall Heights delivers in a way that will stop even the most casual of listeners in their tracks. Folk is a genre that some people use only for background music. However, their most recent album Neptune commands attention with the combination of soothing strings, thoughtful lyrics and electronic elements which brings the genre into the twenty-first century.
Buzzing off the success of their singles “XO” and “Talk to Me”, the duo Nightly, has performed at a few shows throughout the country as well as an appearance at Bonnaroo. Jonathan Capecia from the duo took some time to talk to us about their tour and new plans.
