Our boys Why Don’t We finally dropped their debut album 8 LETTERS today and we could not be more excited.
As soon as Eben walked on stage at the sold out Why Don’t We show in Dallas, we knew he was going to be someone to watch. The crowd instantly went wild and we were surrounded by fans chanting his name, which is not always the case for show openers. And as soon as he started his set, we realized what the hype was about.
It’s been quite the year for indie artists and although our Albums of The Year have featured big acts like Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar to up-and-comers Anna of the North and Julien Baker, that doesn’t mean we don’t still have our eyes on newer artists that are still paving their way and making waves in the music world. There are so many artists that we loved this year and it’s impossible to name them all but here are some of our favorite new acts to keep up with.
Sydney Alton’s sweet voice could captivate any listener, her covers have been going viral and it’s clear that it’s taking her places. I talked to Sydney about her big move to LA, what inspires her, and her best advice for getting into music.
The first time I saw Why Don’t We was on Valentine’s Day at a small venue in downtown Dallas, one they’d just been shifted to that night and weren’t sure the crowd would be the right size for. I was familiar with a couple of their songs and was stoked to spend my V Day with this boy band (obvi), but I had no idea how wonderful the show would end up being. It’s safe to say it might have been my best Valentine’s Day yet.
Why Don’t We is an internet sensation, their video “Taking You” already has over 200,000 views and is growing fast. Their “Only The Beginning” EP hit #15 on Billboard’s Heatseeker Albums Chart and I’m certain that they’re the next big thing.
You know how much we love Jena Rose. She performed for us and talked to us about rompers and her hit single “Paper Walls” and she had the most fabulous Sweet 16 we’ve ever seen.
